This post is a little different from most of my other ones, because it’s more of a reaction and first thoughts on upcoming movies and TV shows as opposed to an actual review. I know that these kinds of things are rather prevalent on YouTube, in part because the entire reaction can be conveyed in a video as opposed to just being done in words. Nevertheless, I will do what I can to share my first impressions on two upcoming movies and a saved TV show. I will most likely do more of these in the future, so please feel free to give me suggestions on how I can improve these kinds of posts.
1. SHAZAM!– Well, it looks like the DC Cinematic Universe is starting to be a little less dark and serious already (NOTE: I have yet to see Justice League so if my previous statement is incorrect, please forgive me.) And frankly, SHAZAM! looks pretty good to me. Sometimes it can be difficult to do humor that works in a superhero movie, but I think that not only is SHAZAM! going to do it, this movie is going to do it well. The plot looks simple enough: a young boy is given superpowers and now he’s trying to learn how to use them with the help of his “brother”. It reminds me a lot of Spider-Man: Homecoming and that’s a good thing. I know that the DC Universe has a long way to go before it attains the same status as Marvel and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but if SHAZAM! ends up being as entertaining as it looks, then the DC Cinematic Universe is heading in the right direction.
2. Aquaman– Aquaman is a superhero that has frequently been a source of jokes, much like Hawkeye in the MCU, due how mediocre his powers are, especially compared to other characters in the DC Universe, but it looks like that fact is about to change. Unlike SHAZAM!, which looks like its going to be more comedic as opposed to being more serious, Aquaman looks like it will have a nice blend of funny moments and serious ones. The visuals seen in the trailer also makes the movie look like it’s going to be one wild trip. Hopefully Aquaman will live up to its expectations, because I know that before the trailer, people were looking forward to this movie. Now that the trailer has dropped, people are even more excited for it and now that I’ve seen it myself, I can see why everyone is so excited for it.
3. Star Wars: The Clone War– I grew up watching The Clone Wars every Friday night, until it was changed to Saturday morning and then I always overslept and missed it. It was always one of my favorite shows, but it wasn’t until rather recently that I learned that it was cancelled before it could finish. Unfortunately, I had kind of started losing touch with the series after its time slot on Cartoon Network was changed, so it was difficult for me to keep up with it. That said, I do vaguely remember watching the last episode, or at least the last part of it, but now that I think about it, it does seem like it was a weird place to end the series. In reality, The Clone Wars was canceled after its sixth season, but it’s finally returning for a highly anticipated seventh season. While watching the trailer, I legitimately got goosebumps. Twice. I genuinely hope that this continuation stays true to the original series and wraps everything up, much like the Samurai Jack reboot did (even though I didn’t actually see it, I did hear good things). But all we can do is wait and hope. Now I just have to go and rewatch The Clone Wars to catch back up on everything.
