Dying Light 2 was the next game shown off following Gears of War 5, and the premise of the game sounds exciting. In Dying Light 2, it appears that the protagonist will be living on a timer as he finds himself infected with the zombie virus (ignore my lack of knowledge since I never played Dying Light). Not only is this an interesting spin on the standard zombie apocalypse survivor, it also looks like the protagonist will be primarily working to help others instead of just himself. Overall, Dying Light 2 looks very promising, and I myself may check it out in the future.
Xbox also unveiled an upcoming DLC for Forza Horizon 4 in the form of the LEGO Speed Champion pack. In this DLC, players can drive around in LEGO cars on LEGO race tracks. There’s not a whole lot to say other than that it looks like a very fun and silly piece of DLC.
Shortly after the reveal of Gears of War 5, Xbox revealed the Gears POP mobile game. The game looks like it may be a real-time strategy take on the classic third person cover-based shooter, but I may be wholly wrong. Still, Gears POP looks like it could be a fun enough mobile game that’s great for killing time.
The State of Decay 2: Heartland DLC was the next thing shown off, and it seems intriguing enough. The DLC will feature two different stories that will most likely interconnect and overlap, but again, I have very little experience with State of Decay and its sequel.
Xbox then revealed that the popular Japanese MMORPG Phantasy Star Online 2 would be coming to Xbox and Windows in 2020. The game will be free to play, and because of that, I firmly intend to check it out when it finally drops for Xbox.
CrossFire X, a popular multiplayer tactical shooter, will also be brought to Xbox in the near future. I will more than likely end up checking this game out, because both my friends and I all enjoy first person shooters Besides, the fact that CrossFire X may be free to play only further enhances the accessibility of the game, as well as how likely I am to play it.
The next game shown of was Tales of Arise. This is another game that I have little to say about, because I’m a complete stranger to the Tales series. I’ve heard of and seen some of the games, but I’ve never actually played any of them. However, the combat shown off in the trailer looks very smooth and incredibly fun.
Borderlands 3 was shown off next, and even though Borderlands 3 has already been announced, it was nice seeing it presented again at E3. However, in addition to a new (I think) Borderlands 3 trailer, it was also revealed that Borderlands 2 was getting a brand new free story DLC that day. I’ve already played and beaten the DLC, for the most part, and I plan to share my thoughts on it this weekend. In the end, I was moderately excited for Borderlands 3 before E3, but after playing through the new Borderlands 2 DLC and seeing the trailer at E3, I’m even more excited for what I expect to be a truly great game.
The second to last game briefly shown off was Elden Ring. While I personally didn’t get a whole lot out of the brief, and frankly confusing, trailer, I wholly expect this to be a very good, and very interesting game. The two most prominent minds behind this game are Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin and the game will be developed by From Software. I expect Elden Ring to be a very rich, and difficult, game since it’s being made by the same people behind the critically acclaimed Dark Souls series, now with the help of Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin. Overall, I would definitely recommend keeping an eye on Elden Ring purely because of who all is behind it.
Now before I address the final game shown off at the Xbox conference, I would like to briefly mention Project Scarlett–the next generation Xbox console. I’m excited to see exactly what this new console will be capable of, because it was touted as being four times more powerful than the Xbox One X. Project Scarlett will (hopefully) run at an impressive 120 frames per second and it will be very fast. One promise made by some of the developers behind this new console is that it will reduce load times, which I for one will gladly welcome. However, I must remain at least somewhat skeptical until I see what Project Scarlett can do, but I’m definitely excited to see exactly how powerful it really is.
Halo Infinite was teased last year at E3 and this time it got itself a formal trailer. Halo Infinite is definitely one of the two upcoming games that I am the most excited for. The Halo series is one of my favorite series including the games as well as the novels and comic books. I love the Halo franchise, and the trailer for Halo Infinite makes me very optimistic about the game. Graphically, the game looks great. But moving beyond that, the trailer doesn’t expound much on the story, but from some of the speculation and theories that I’ve heard, it sounds intense. Halo Infinite will take place a few years after the events of Halo 5, so I’m very excited to see what 343 Industries does with the story.
