The Afterskool Writing Club is Open For Business

A few weeks ago I unveiled a brand new community on Skool that I was putting together. Today I wanted to talk a little more about it and share it with you.

The Afterskool Writing Club is a community meant to help creators improve their projects. Editing can be intimidating. I’m a writer, and the idea of someone reading my stuff and criticizing it terrifies me. I know that I’m not alone in feeling this way. Feedback is scary, but it doesn’t have to be. That’s a driving motivation behind The Afterskool Writing Club. I want to cultivate a friendly community where creators can share what they’re working on, and receive helpful and constructive feedback in a positive manner that never makes them doubt their abilities or projects, or causes them to get defensive about their works.

That being said, the community isn’t just for writers. Another core pillar of the community is how I want it to help with ANY creative project. Working on a board game and need help developing and testing a mechanic? The Afterskool Writing Club community can help you. Struggling to fully conceptualize a video game? Talk about it with members in The Afterskool Writing Club. Struggling to flesh out your worldbuidling or magic system in an RPG? Let’s figure it out together. The community is made by creators, for creators, regardless of what it is you’re creating.

Finally, even if you aren’t a creative but enjoy creative things, I urge you to check out the community. If you never upload a single thing, that’s totally fine; there’s no requirement or participation quota that members need to reach. If you just want to read good content, I encourage you to do that.

If you’re a creative person, or know someone who is, I strongly encourage you to check out The Afterskool Writing Club. It’s a friendly, welcoming community that already has plenty of guides in place to explain expectations from members, and what feedback should look like. I know that may sound intimidating, but it’s really not (a lot of it boils down to “don’t steal people’s work” and “don’t be a jerk”). And lastly, I have one more incentive for why you should join now: we’re still pretty small, so if you share something, I can devote a lot of time to looking it over and providing constructive feedback. I have professional editing experience, and I’ve run an organization that provided similar services in the past. Follow the link below to learn more about this awesome new community. I hope to see you there.
